Adventures in Oz

F Douglas Wall asked me if I could do some pictures for his RPG "Adventures in Oz". Here are the pictures I did for him, a wheeler, and a tree of Oogaboo.

Red Jinn

This is Jinnicky, the Red Jinn, and the Wizard of Ev. I always liked this character created by Ruth Plumly Thompson. I've had ideas for a story about how he became the wizard of Ev. Maybe some day.

Here is another of Oz's odd creatures. From "The Tinwoodman of Oz" is the Hip-po-gy-raf.

Zim Greenleaf

Illustrating "Bucketheads in Oz" has given me a chance to draw many different characters. Here is a picture of Zim Greenleaf originally created by Melody Grandy for her series of books " The Seven Blue Mountains of Oz".

The Leopard with the Changing Spots

This is one of my favorite characters from "The Hidden Valley of Oz" , The Leopard with the Changing Spots. I decided to make his spots from my signature exclamation points.

Here is another picture I did for "Bucketheads in Oz". This one gave me a chance to put as many characters as I could. I put in mostly Baum's characters, but I put a couple of Thompson's, and I put characters from the last two books I illustrated.

Terrybubble

Here we have a picture of Terrybubble From "Speedy in Oz". This is one of the characters that Nathan DeHoff wanted to see me do. Nathan aways seem to challenge me.

Jinjur

From "The Marvelous Land of Oz" is General Jinjur. She was the leader of an all girl army that took over the Emerald City. She was one of characters suggested to me when I asked who people would like to see.

Woot the Wanderer

Over the years I've considered doing an Oz comic-book. Lately I've been thinking about which character would be a good protagonist for my comic. I decided on Woot the Wanderer From "The Tin Woodman of Oz". As J.L.Bell pointed out to me, he can go anywhere in Oz, and as a character he's somewhat of an empty vessel. Here is my first attempt at a character design for him.

Kalidahs

I am currently working on a new book for TOTCLAF called "Bucketheads in Oz". In the book are many of the creatures called kalidahs. This is Kericot the Considerate Kalidah and her brother Randicot created by Phyllis Ann Karr. They made their first appearance in an OZIANA story called The Guardian Dove In 1990.

Strasheela and the Iron Woodchopper

Here is a picture of Strasheela and the Iron Woodchopper from the Russia version of the Oz books written by Alexandr Volkov. I tried to make them look as much like the way the artist L. Vladimirski drew them. I did this picture for "Three-headed Elvis Clone Found in Flying Saucer over Oz" which used alot of Volkov characters.

Snif the Iffin

Here is a suggestion I got from Nathan DeHoff (VoVat) from twitter. This is a picture of Snif the Iffin from "Jack Pumpkinhead of Oz". I tried to keep him the same look as Neill's,but I also wanted to do him like the way Thompson described him. So I gave him a more lion like body and dragon like claws.

Three-Headed Elvis Clone Found in Flying Saucer over Oz

The Hidden Valley of Oz

Dirk was my least favorite Oz illustrator. His work was okay but wasn't very ozzy. This is my version of his cover for The Hidden Valley of Oz.
